What are the loan options available for SMEs?

SMEs can relatively easily obtain a credit facility from SME Development & Finance Corporation (SDFC) for an amount up to MVR 5 million or, up to MVR 1 million depending on the requirements. 

Bank of Maldives and other private banks also have SME focused loan products. BML in particular often works with the movement in facilitating credit facilities fully/ partially funded by government. 

How Much Equity Is Required?

Equity requirement for new business are also relatively low for SMEs. There are facilities available for equity as low as 10-15% of the total project cost.

Do I have to Mortgage?

There are facilities which requires a mortgage, like that available from private banks. However, unsecured facilities are available from SDFC for existing & new businesses.
